چکیده
A syndrome of akinesia, rigidity and tremor can be induced in rats after administration of reserpinel' 2 . A technique giving access to the activity of single efferent axons and motor units without interfering with the induced motor phenomena was developed for an analysis of the muscle control in the reserpine syndrome2 . A decrease of y -fibre activity and an increase of a-fibre activity was demonstrated simultaneously with the appearance of the motor phenomena after reserpine injection . The result showed that the a-moto-neurone hyperactivity of reserpine rigidity is not secondary to a hyperactivity of y -motor axons, These motor fibres serve as regulators of muscle spindle sensitivity and influence the a-moto neurones via the stretch reflex . The spontaneous muscle contraction maintaining the flexion posture of the rigid animal was shown to be due to a tonic activity of slowly contracting motor units2. Using the same technique we have extended the analysis to the motor disturbances caused by chlorpromazine and phenoxybenzamine and further studied the action of L-3, 4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA), DL-5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), dopamine and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) on the drug induced condition. The distribution of the monoamines in the brain seems to be

Possible involvement of a central noradrenergic system in automutilation induced by clonidine in mice.
Automutilation induced by a single large dose of clonidine was potentiated by pretreatment with methamphetamine, caffeine and theophyline, while it was inhibited by acute administration of reserpine, alpha-methyl-p-tyrosine, phenoxybenzamine, phentolamine and chlorpromazine. L-Dopa, 5-hydroxytryptophan and p-chlorophenylalanine had no effect on this abnormal behavior. Biochemical studies on bra...
متن کاملInvolvement of adrenergic and serotonergic nervous mechanisms in allethrin-induced tremors in mice.
Oral or intravenous administration of allethrin, a synthetic derivative of the pirethrin-based insecticides, produces neurotoxic symptoms consisting of mild salivation, hyperexcitability, tremors and convulsions which result in death. Intracerebroventricular injection of allethrin to mouse at about one-nineth the dose of intravenous administration, produced qualitatively identical but less prom...
متن کاملElectron Microscopic Radioautographic Studies of the Carotid Body following Injections of Labeled Biogenic Amine Precursors
Adult Syrian hamsters were given a subcutaneous injection of reserpine 3 days before an intraperitoneal injection of (3)H-3,4 dihydroxyphenylalanine or (3)H-5, hydroxytryptophan and the carotid bodies were subsequently prepared for electron microscopic radioautography. Other Syrian hamsters were given a subcutaneous injection of reserpine and the carotid bodies were subjected to a sensitive cyt...
متن کاملThe effect of mental exercise and Nepeta menthoides on depression-like behavior induced by reserpine in the rat
Background and Objective: Many studies demonstrate that cognitive empowerment reduces the risk of depression. Anti-depressant properties of Nepeta menthoides has also been reported. This study aimed to determine the effects of mental exercise and Nepeta menthoides and also to compare both of them on reserpine-induced depression in rats. Materials and Methods: Male rats were divided into 8 grou...

Murraya koenigii L. (Rutaceae), commonly known as curry leaf tree, closely associated with south India where the word “curry” originates from the Tamil “kari” for spiced sauces. Curry leaves are a rich source of carbazole alkaloids which possess various biological activities such as antitumor, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Curry leaf has a potential role in the treatment of diabetes....
